Meet Zane, the founder of The Flowers Run This City. Established in 2024, right after his polytechnic graduation, this unique floral brand specialises exclusively in artisan fresh flower bouquets.
Not Just a Hobby, But an Identity
For some, floral design is a discovered passion later in life. For Zane, it was hardwired into his DNA from the very beginning.
"I started drawing flowers first when I was in kindergarten. All I drew were flowers. Primary school, secondary school... in the middle of class, I would just start doodling flowers."
"The Flowers Run This City" is the ultimate culmination of his lifelong love for nature and design. Zane draws his primary design inspiration directly from real-life landscapes, observing how nature naturally layers itself during his walks and travels abroad. Every bouquet balances structured grounding with an unmistakable element of whimsy, turning ephemeral plants into deeply personal expressions of identity.
Beneath the Bloom
If you ask any florist about Valentine’s Day, you will likely get a mix of a sigh and a smile. Every year, Zane finds himself asking why he chose this path as his studio floor turns into a literal landmine of sharp rose thorns, leaving his hands covered in cuts and pricks.
During these peak periods, the physical toll is demanding:

Processing hundreds of premium roses entirely by hand to ensure quality.

Wrapping bouquets until 3:00 AM, getting a mere three hours of sleep, and waking up at 6:00 AM to restock at the flower markets.
Despite the exhaustion, seeing the joy on his customers' faces makes every single thorn prick worth it. This relentless grit stems from Zane's deep appreciation for the impermanence of fresh blooms. While some argue that fresh arrangements aren't worth the investment because they eventually fade, Zane believes their temporary nature is exactly what makes them sacred, forcing us to stay present and admire their beauty in the now.
The Flower Language
Flowers carry a soft emotional value that spoken words often fail to capture entirely. Whether celebrating a major milestone, offering a heartfelt apology, or expressing love, flowers speak a rich, historic language of secret meanings.
To communicate a profound sense of peace and calm, Zane curated a specialised, monochromatic arrangement utilising varying textures within a specific colour family:

The Blueprint: Large, round blue hydrangeas create the primary architecture of the arrangement, while short-trimmed carnations ground the base.

The Accent: Hyacinths add a rich, calming fragrance, bright gerberas offer a striking visual "pop" at the top, and delicate Nigella adds an airy touch that sways beautifully in the wind.

What does the future hold for The Flowers Run This City?
Zane is dreaming big. The ultimate goal is to expand globally, establishing boutique flower shops in the world's style capitals: Paris, London, and Tokyo.
Rather than creating a cookie-cutter chain, Zane envisions each international boutique having its own distinct charm, specialising in a specific flower or colour palette unique to that city.
Whether the future holds a global floral empire or quiet local curation, Zane’s note to his future self remains grounded and full of heart: "I hope you're doing well, with or without your flower business. I'm very proud of you."
